 Q: What made you decide to migrate to California?
-nana: father’s life had gotten threatened in the south by white people; nana came out earlier than parents; only boy with 3 sisters so he had to stop working to help with family; “why does he get more money with the same job?”; coming to get him in the middle of the night; lived in Texas

-papa was in the service right after high school so he was in cali; met at a dance

-papa: discharged out here because of the service; didn’t go back because he was getting ready to get married and he didn’t have the funds; working at the post office; house on van ness
